Facial Devices Flashcards
aerosolized
the state of ultramicroscopic particles suspended in the air or a gas
body dysmorphic disorder
a psychosocial disease that causes individuals to be innappropriately concerned, obsessed, or fixiated with their appearance
cellulitis
a potentially serious infection of the skin that presents as a small, red area surrounding a skin injury, those at risk include the elderly and thouse with a compromised immune system
dermal scattering
the scatter or spread of light within the skin tissue
dyschromia
an abnormal display of facial hyperpigmentation due to solar damage
electrodesiccation
a therapy, that uses a device that emits low levels of radiofrquency and high frequency current, with arcs onto the skin and dries of destroys a targeted superficial lesion
hydroquinone
a topical medication that is used for bleaching or reducing excessive melanin lesions in the epidermis
microampere
a measure of electrical current, equivalent to one-millionth of an ampere.
nikolski sign
an indicationof a skin reaction; the clinical manifestations observed are perifollicular edema, erythema or blistering, or an epidermal separation caused by lateral pressure on the skin
photodamage
skin damage caused by exposure to the sun’s rays; it can be as simple as fine lines or as serious as hyperpigmentation, actinic keratosis, deep rhytids, facial laxity and invasive skin cancers
photorejuvenation
a series of laser or IPL facial treatments conducted to improve vascular and pigmented lesions and induce collagen stimulation.
photoxic
describes a toxic effect triggered by exposure of light to the skin, sometimes as a result of topical or oral medications
Poikiloderma of Civatte
mottled redness of brown discoloration apperaing most commonly in women on the sides of the neck of the upper chest, it is non cancerous sun damage
preventatitive maintinence
routine equipment calibration and device checks by qualified, trained biomedical engineers to guarentee that the equipment is in appropriate working order.
pulse width
the timing of light energy, or how long the laser beam is actually striking the skin
