O: epicranial aponeurosis
I: skin over eyebrows
A: elevates eyebrows, wrinkles forehead



Orbicularis oculi M
Orbicularis oris muscle insertion and action
O: medial orbital rim (frontal, maxilla), medial palpebral ligament
I: skin around orbit, eyelids (tarsal plates)
A: closes eyelids (blinking, squinting)

Nasalis M
Nasalis attachments and action
O: maxilla
I: alar cartilage of nose
A: flares, compresses nostrils

Orbicularis oris m
Orbicularis oris attachments and action
O: medial maxilla and mandible
I: skin, mucosa of lips
A: oral sphincter, protrude lips

Zygomaticus major
Zygomaticus major attachments and action
O: Zygomatic bone
I: angle of mouth
A: pulls angle of mouth superiorly & laterally

Zygomaticus minor m

O: Zygomatic bone
I: upper lip
A: elevates upper lip

O: inf margin of orbit, sup. to infraorbital foramen

O: facial part of maxilla, inf to infraorbital foramen

Buccinator m
Buccinator attachments and action
O: alveolar processes of maxilla & mandible, pterygomandibular raphe
I: angle of mouth, skin of cheeks
A: compresses cheeks, keeps food between teeth

Mentalis
Mentalis attachment and action
O: incisive fossa of mandible
I: skin of chin
A: protrudes lower lip, crumples skin of chin

Platysma
Platysma attachment and action
O: skin of neck and upper thorax
I: mandible, blends with inferior oral MM
A: tenses skin of neck, depresses mandible (against resistance)
Branches of facial nerve

Facial nerve emerges from
Stylomastoid foramen
Foramen of trigeminal branches

Branches of opthalmic
Nasociliary, lacrimal, and frontal
Frontal nerve branches into:
Supraorbital and supratrochlear
Maxillary nerve branches
Zygomaticotemporal, zygomaticofacial, infraorbital
Branches of mandibular nerve
Auriculotemporal, long buccal, mental
General blood supply to face





Sensory portion of parotid gland
Sensory to sheath from great auricular N (cervical plexus)
Secretomotor to parotid (parasymp.)
