F5 Flashcards
What is a system?
a set of things – people, cells, molecules, or whatever – interconnected in such a way that they produce their own pattern or behavior over time
Or an entity which maintains its existence through the mutual interaction of its parts.
Or a group of interacting, interrelated, and interdependent components that form a complex and unified whole
What are the two driving forces and trends leading to a world in transition?
- Growth of population and activities, exploration of natural resources. Population changes giving impacts on land scapes.
- A world center in the exploration of natural resources (e.g. forestry, cattle breeding, mining) in transition to a world that explores regional amenities (e.g. climate, landscape, open spaces, independency) Landscape that sustains a livelihood (e.g. mining or dense residential landscape) in transition to a world that offers a lifestyle (e.g. natural areas for leisure and sports, urban Diversity)
What kind of models can systems be represented in?
*Sources, Stocks, Sinks and flows
*Feedback
*Delay
*Non-linear effects
*Thresholds
*Positive and negative casual relationships
Mention the three models used for analysis?
Time Series Models - Describe trends
Multivariate Stat Models - Identify historical trend drivers and correlates
Dynamic Simulation Models - Anticipate new trends, learn about policy consequences, and set justifiable goals
