F: Types of Lighting System Flashcards
Light shines directly onto the surface or object being
illuminated.

* Creates strong shadows and contrast
Direct Lighting

downward and the remaining component
serves to illuminate the ceiling.
* Mix of Direct and Indirect light.
* Provides both focused illumination and
some ambient lighting
Semi-direct Lighting
90% to 100% of the light output of the
luminaries is directed to the ceiling
and upper walls of the room.
* Light reflected off a surface before
reaching the area to be illuminated.
* Creates a soft, diffused light,
minimizing harsh shadows.
Indirect Lighting

* 60% to 90% of the light output is
directed upward to the ceiling
and upper walls rather than
directed downwards.
* Offers both focused illumination
and more diffused ambient light.
Semi- indirect Lighting
Provides approximately equal
distribution of light upward and
downward.
* Fixture with both downward and
upward beam.
* Creates a balance of focused
illumination and ambient light.
Direct-Indirect
Light is evenly distributed throughout a
space, lacking a clear direction.
* Provides and comfortable and uniform
light minimizing shadows.
