Q
Effects of Dams on Habitat and Wildlife
A
Habitat:
- Destruction/alteration during construction and use
- Sediment movement
Wildlife:
- Migratory pathway blockage
- Direct damage to wildlife
2

Aeration
A
- Excess air can saturate into pressurized/deeper water
- Water that moves to the surface is supersaturated and starts degassing
- Excess air can be absorbed into the fish during gas exchange
- Extra gas in the bloodstream can cause numerous effects on fish usually lumped together as GAS BUBBLE TRAUMA (GBT)
3
Q
How can fish somewhat avoid the effects of high TDG exposure?
A
by swimming deeper
4
Q
What are 3 symptoms of gas bubble trauma?
A
- Lesions across body
- Eczema
- Overinflated swim bladders
