Within 2 weeks of life: mild eyelid swelling, chemosis, watery/mucopurulent discharge
Treatment?
P.O. erythromycin
(Topical not effective)
Topical erythromycin given at birth is prophylaxis only for gonorrheal conjunctivitis
Orbital cellulitis cause
bacterial sinusitis due to proximity of sinuses to orbital space
dilated pupil that is poorly responsive to light
acute angle closure glaucoma
ESR in temporal arteritis
> 50
Inflammatory changes in medial canthus. Infants and adults >40yo
Dacryocystitis (infection of lacrimal sac)
Usually staph or strep. Can be purulent
Staph abscess on eyelid
Hordeolum
Chronic granulomatous inflammation of meibomian gland. Hard painless lid nodule
Chalazion

allergic rhinitis
Continued ear discharge even after antibiotic tx
Otoscopy reveals intact TM with peripheral granulation and some skin debris
Cholesteatoma
contact lens-associated keratitis
pseudomonas and serratia
brief episodes of vertigo caused by head movement
BPPV
(Dix-hallpike manuever -> nygstagmus)
Epley can fix it
semicircular canal dysfunction
acute single episode of vertigo that can last days
often follows viral syndrome
vestibular neuritis
abnormal head-thrust test
