Scotoma
Blind spot surrounded by an area of normal or decreased vision.
Occurs with glaucoma and optic nerve disorders.
Night Blindness
Occurs with optic atrophy, glaucoma, & Vit A deficiency.
Photophobia
inability to tolerate light
Diplopia
Perception of two images of a single object
Strabismus
Deviation in the axis of the eye
Lacrimation
Tearing
Epiphora
Excessive tearing
Presbyopia
The decrease in power of accommodation with aging.
Nystagmus
Fine oscillating movement - best seen around the iris.
Occurs with disease of the semicircular canals in the ears, a paretic eye muscle, MS, or brain lesions
Lid lag occurs with
hyperthryroidism
Ptosis
dropping of upper eyelid
Scleral icterus
an even yellowing of the sclera extending up to the cornea indicating jaundice.
Anisororia
Pupils are two different sizes normally - occurs in 5% of people
Scleral crescent
gray-white, new-moon shape.
Occurs when pigment is absent in the choroid layer
Pigment crescent
is black, due to accumulation of pigment in the choroid
