Eyes Flashcards
What is the most common form of glaucoma
Open angle glaucoma
Why does open angle glaucoma occur
Due to restricted drainage of the aqueous humour through trabecular mesh work leading to ocular hypertension
How is glaucoma treated
Treated with topical prostaglandins analogues (latanoprost, tafluprost, travoprost or bimatroprost)
What is the treatment pathway of glaucoma
If initial prostaglandin analogue hasn’t worked, try a different one
If that doesn’t work, topical beta blockers: betaxolol, levobunolol, timolol
If that doesn’t work, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors: brinzolamide or dorzolomide
Brimonidine and pilocarpine can also be used
What are the prostaglandin analogues and what are the side effects
Latanoprost, tafluprost, travoprost, bimatoprost
Dry eyes
Ocular discomfort
Change to eye colour
Hyperpigmentation of the peri-ocular skin
Darkening, thickening and lengthening of the eyelashes
