Eyeball and Lacrimal Apparatus Flashcards
Name 3 coats in wall of eyeball.
- Fibrous coat (corneoscleral coat)
- Vascular coat (uvea)
- Retina
Name 5 corneal layers.
- Epithelium
- Bowman’s layer
- Corneal stroma
- Descemet’s membrane
- Endothelium
Vascular coat (uvea) includes:
Name 3 structure
Choroid, ciliary body, iris
Name 2 muscles in iris.
Dilator pupillae and sphincter pupillae
What is aqueous humour?
Aqueous humour is a transparent watery fluid similar to plasma, secreted from the ciliary
epithelium in posterior chamber.
Describe the flow of aqueous humor.
Through the narrow space between lens & iris and pupil
–> enters the anterior chamber –> from anterior chamber, aqueous humour exits the eye through the trabecular meshwork (at
iridocorneal angle) –> Schlemm’s canal (channel at the limbus) –> 25–30 collector canals –>
Episcleral veins –> General circulation
What is fuction of aqueous humor?
Maintains the intraocular pressure.
Provides nutrition for cornea, lens.
Prevents eye dryness.
As refractive media
Function of vitreous humor?
Maintain the sshape of eyeball
Name 2 types of glaucoma.
Open/ wide angle glaucoma
Close angle glaucoma
Describe open/wide angle glaucoma.
Blockage of the
trabecular meshwork (degeneration) –>
prevents outflow of aqueous humour –>
increased intraocular pressure.
Describe close angle glaucoma.
Iridocorneal angle is
completely closed because of forward
displacement of the root of iris against the cornea.
What part of eyeball that sensitive to light?
Retina
