What is the general management principles for patients with eye injuries?

Answer 1

1. Irrigation with water or saline for chemical or biological fluid exposure, foreign body or thermal burns (30 min flush for chemical & 15 min for other)
2. Protect eye with shield (cardboard cone or styrofoam cup)
3. Administer prophylactic antiemetic (ondansetron) to prevent vomiting which increases intraocular pressure
4. Position patient head up
