What types of diseases can affect the eye?
Vascular diseases and diabetes
What disorder results in misalignment and incorrect eye movement?
Strabismus

The cornea and the lens

Presbyopia
What is sty?
Localized inflammation of the eyelid
What types of glands are affected in sty?
Sebaceous (oil [sebum]) glands
What is a cataract?
A clouding of the lens related to protein clumping that causes poor vision or blindness
What is age-related macular degeneration disorder?
A degenerative disease of the retina that causes loss of central vision and/or color
What is glaucoma?
A disease of the optic nerve that causes loss of peripheral vision
Who are at risk for developing glaucoma?
African Americans over 40 and everyone (especially hispanics) over 60
Which eye disorder is most prevelant after the age of 80?
Cataracts
Which eye disorder affects most individuals within their 40’s?
Myopia
