Extensor Hallucis Longus
Origin: Middle 1/3 of Anterior Fibula
Insertion: Distal Phalanx of Great Toe
Nerve: Deep Fibular
Action: Extends the Big Toe
Peroneus Tertius
Origin: Mid-Shaft of fibula (anterior)
Insertion: Dorsal surface of base of 5th metatarsal
Nerve: Deep Fibular (anterior)
Action: Dorsiflexion & Eversion
Peroneus Brevis
Origin: Distal 2/3 of Lateral Fibula
Insertion: Base of 5th metatarsal
Nerve: Superficial Fibular
Action: Eversion & Plantar Flexion
Function: Decelerates MTJ during functional loading (inversion)
Peroneus Longus
Origin: Proximal 2/3 of Lateral Fibula
Insertion: Base of 1st metatarsal & Medial Cuneiform
Nerve: Superficial Fibular
Action: Eversion & Plantar Flexion & Supports Arch
Function: Decelerates MTJ during functional loading (inversion & dorsiflexion)
Tibialis Posterior
Origin: Proximal 2/3 of Posterior Tibia, Fibula, & Interosseous Membrane
Insertion: Navicular, Cuneiforms, Cuboid, & Bases of 2-4 Metatarsals
Nerve: Tibial (posterior)
Action: Inversion & Plantar Flexion & Supports Arch
Function:
- Decelerates MTJ during functional loading (abduction & dorsiflexion)
- Decelerates STJ during functional loading (eversion)
Tibialis Anterior
Origin: Lateral Condyle & Surface of Tibia, Interosseous Membrane
Insertion: Medial Cuneiform & Base of 1st Metatarsal
Nerve: Deep Fibular
Action: Inversion & Dorsiflexion
Function: Decelerates STJ during functional loading (eversion)
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Origin: Lateral Condyle of Tibia, Proximal 3/4 of Anterior Fibula
Insertion: Middle & Distal Phalanges of Lateral 4 toes (2-5)
Nerve: Deep Fibular
Action: Extends 2-5 toes & Dorsiflexion & Eversion
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Origin: Middle 1/3 of Posterior Tibia
Insertion: Distal Phalanges of Lateral 4 toes
Nerve: Tibial (posterior)
Action: Flexion of Distal Phalanges of lateral 4 toes (2-5)
