Extrinsic Laryngeal Muscles Flashcards
These 2 muscles elevate the hyoid bone or depress the mandible
Mylohyoid and Geniohyoid
This muscle draws the hyoid up and forward
Anterior belly of the Digastricus
This muscle originates in the upper border of the scapula and inserts into the intermediate tendon
Omohyoid (inferior head)
These three muscles depress the hyoid
Sternohyoid, Omohyoid, Thyrohyoid
This muscle originates in the greater horn of the hyoid bone and inserts in the sides of the tongue
Hyoglossus
This muscle originates in the styloid process of the temporal bone and inserts into the corpus of the hyoid
Stylohyoid muscle
This muscle originates in the inner surface of hte mandible near the symphysis & originates in the mastoid process of the temporal bond to insert into the hyoid
Digastricus
This muscle originates in the thyroid lamina and inferior horn and inserts into the psterior pharyngeal raphe
Thyropharyngeus of inferior pharyngeal constrictor
The Sternothyroid is innervated by teh
XII (hypoglossal) and spinal nerves C1 & C2
This muscle draws the hyoid up and back
Posterior belly of the Digastricus
This muscle moves the hyoid posteriorly
Stylohyoid
The Geniohyoid is innervated by
XII (hypoglossal nerve) and C1 spinal nerve
This muscle elevates the hyoid and depresses the tongue
Hyglossus
The Superior Omohyoid is innervated by the
Superior ramus of ansa cervicalis from C1
This muscle originates in the inner surface of the mandible at symphysis and inserts into the tongue and corpus hyoid
Genioglossus
The anterior fibers of this muscle converge at the median fibrous raphe
Mylohyoid
These two muscles are innervated by the Motor branch of the XII Cranial nerve
Hyoglossus and Genioglossus
This muscle constricts the pharynx and eleveates the larynx
Thyropharyngeus of the Inferior Constrictor
the posterior Digastricus is innervated by the
VII (facial) nerve
This muscle originates at the mental spines in the inner surface of the mandible and inserts into the corpus of the hyoid bone
Geniohyoid
This muscle originates in the intermediate tendo and inserts into the lower border of the hyoid
Omohyoid (superior head)
The Mylohyoid is innervated by the
V (trigeminal) nerve
Digastricus has two parts that insert into the hyoid by means of the _____
intermediate tendon
Together, these muscles elevate the hyoid bone
Digastricus (anterior and posterior)
This muscle originates in the manubrium sterni and clavicle and inserts into the inferior margin of the hyoid corpus
Sternohyoid
The Inferior Omohyoid is innervated by the
ansa cervicalis, spinal C2-C3
The stylohyoid muscle is innervated by the
VIIth CN: Facial
This muscle originates in the oblique line of the thyroid cartilage and inserts into the greater horn of the hyoid
Thyrohyoid
The Hyoglossus is innervated by
motor branch of the XII Hypoglossal CN
This muscle depresses the thyroid cartilage
Sternothyroid
The Thyropharyngeus Muscle of the Inferior Constrictor is innervated by
X (vagus), recurrent laryngeal nerve (external laryngeal branch) & X (vagus) superior laryngeal nerve (pharyngeal branch)
The Genioglossus is innervated by the
motor branch of the XII (hypoglossal) CN
The Thyrohyoid is innervated by the
XII (hypoglossal) nerve and C1
This muscle originates in the manubrium sterni and the first costal cartilage then inserts into the oblique line of the thyroid cartilage
Sternothyroid
The Sternohyoid is innervated by the
Ansa cervicalis from C1-C3
The anterior Digastricus is innervated by
V (trigeminal) nerve
This muscle originates in the inner surface of the mandible and inserts into the corpus of the hyoid
Mylohyoid
