Extrinsic Laryngeal Muscles Flashcards
These 2 muscles elevate the hyoid bone or depress the mandible
Mylohyoid and Geniohyoid
This muscle draws the hyoid up and forward
Anterior belly of the Digastricus
This muscle originates in the upper border of the scapula and inserts into the intermediate tendon
Omohyoid (inferior head)
These three muscles depress the hyoid
Sternohyoid, Omohyoid, Thyrohyoid
This muscle originates in the greater horn of the hyoid bone and inserts in the sides of the tongue
Hyoglossus
This muscle originates in the styloid process of the temporal bone and inserts into the corpus of the hyoid
Stylohyoid muscle
This muscle originates in the inner surface of hte mandible near the symphysis & originates in the mastoid process of the temporal bond to insert into the hyoid
Digastricus
This muscle originates in the thyroid lamina and inferior horn and inserts into the psterior pharyngeal raphe
Thyropharyngeus of inferior pharyngeal constrictor
The Sternothyroid is innervated by teh
XII (hypoglossal) and spinal nerves C1 & C2
This muscle draws the hyoid up and back
Posterior belly of the Digastricus
This muscle moves the hyoid posteriorly
Stylohyoid
The Geniohyoid is innervated by
XII (hypoglossal nerve) and C1 spinal nerve
This muscle elevates the hyoid and depresses the tongue
Hyglossus
The Superior Omohyoid is innervated by the
Superior ramus of ansa cervicalis from C1
This muscle originates in the inner surface of the mandible at symphysis and inserts into the tongue and corpus hyoid
Genioglossus
