EXTREME SPORTS Flashcards
F: JUSTICE
Take part in it through personal choice.
More justified to spend publically managed funds on non- self-inflicted diseases.
- Cancer.
- Inherited disease: Cystic Fibrosis.
F: LUXURY
ES is a luxury.
Treatment is often expensive and other luxury based procedures are not available through the NHS.
- IVF is not fully covered by NHS
Those partaking could be assumed to be able to afford insurance or private healthcare for their injuries.
A: JUSTICE
NHS is funded by taxpayers, therefore any taxpayer should have complete access to all the services it provides.
Gives the message that NHS is allowed to refrain from providing treatment to certain patients –> Undermines MHS constitution.
- Slippery slope: COPD, lung cancer are also self-inflicted but are treated under NHS.
– Obesity, CVD, D11, Liver Disease, Non- alcoholic fatty liver disease. –> Could also be said to be lifestyle diseases.
TOURIST ECONOMY
People may decrease involvement in ES due to fear of treatment denial.
Job losses, poor econ status of employees, may cause health issues –> those have to be treated anyways.
