Channel

An area where a river a deposited mud and sand, usually where it entered the sea eg. Nile Delta, Mississippi Delta
Flood defences
Structures built to prevent flooding; eg an embankment (raised river bank) along the river
Reservoir
A natural or artificial lake used for the storage of water
Sediment
A layer of material (stones, sand, mud) deposited by a river
Valley
An area of low land, with higher land on either site; it was carved out by a river
Weir
A low dam built across a river to raise the water level, divert the water, or control the flow
Bed load
Stones and other material that rolls or bounces along a river bed
