Yintang
L: On the anterior midline, between the medial ends of the eyebrows.
A: Expels wind, calms the mind
M: Puncture subcutaneous 0.3-0.5 inch inferiorly or inferior-laterally.
Taiyang
L: In the depression found 1 cun posterior to the midpoint of the line drawn between the lateral end of the eyebrow and the outer canthus.
A: Expels wind, clears heat
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-0.8 inch, or oblique 0.3-0.5 inch anteriorly, or subcutaneous 1.0-1.5 inch
toward GB 8.
C: Superficial temporal artery and vein.
Yuyao
L: At the midpoint of the eyebrow, directly superior to the centred pupil.
A: benefits the eyes, and relieves pain.
M: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 inch superiorly.
Bitong
L: At the most superior point of the nasolabial groove on the face.
A: Opens the nose, benefits the sinuses
M: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 inch superior-medially toward the bridge of the nose.
Jiachengjiang
L: 1 cun lateral to CV 24, on the mentolabial groove.
A: Expels exterior wind, benefits the face.
M: Puncture oblique 0.3-0.5 inch, or subcutaneous 0.5-1.5 inch.
Sishencong
L: 1 cun away from GV 20 in all four directions: anterior, posterior, and bilateral.
A: benefits the eyes/ ears
M: Puncture subcutaneous 0.5-1.0 inch toward GV 20.
C: Open fontanelle in infants.
Yiming
L: 1 cun posterior to TW 17.
A: Benefits the eyes, benefits the ears
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-0.8 inch.
N: Great auricular nerve.
Anmian
L: At the midpoint of the line joining GB 20 and TW 17. A: Calms the mind, nourishes Heart Yin. M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch. N: Great auricular nerve. C: Posterior auricular artery and vein.
Jianneiling
L: At the midpoint of the line joining the end of the anterior axillary fold and LI 15.
A: relieves pain, dissipates cold.
M: Puncture perpendicular 1.0-1.5 inch, or oblique 2.0-3.0- inch inferiorly toward the elbow.
N: axillary nerve.
Erbai
L: On the anterior aspect of the forearm, 4 cun proximal to the transverse wrist crease, on both sides of the flexor carpi radialis tendon. Two points on each forearm.
A: Lifts sinking Qi, raises Yang.
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch, or oblique 1.0-1.5 inch.
N: Median nerve.
Yaotongxue
L: On the dorsum of the hand, midway between the transverse wrist crease and the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint, between the 2nd and 3rd and between the 4th and 5th metacarpal bones. 2 points on each hand.
A: Benefits the lower back, relieves pain.
M: Puncture oblique 0.5-1.0 inch toward the center of the palm. It is recommended that the patient move
the lower back while the points are being stimulated.
Luozhen
L: On the dorsum of the hand, between the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones, about 0.5 cun proximal to the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint.
A: Benefits the neck, relieves pain
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-0.8 inch, or oblique 0.5-1.0 inch. It is recommended that the patient move
the neck while the point is being stimulated.
Baxie
L: On the dorsum of the hand, just proximal to the webs of the fingers at the junction of the red and white skin. These points include TW 2.
A: Clears heat, relieves swelling
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch, or oblique 0.3-0.5 inch, or prick to cause bleeding.
Huatuojiaji
L: 0.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of the T1 and L5.
A: benefits the back/ spine
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch, 1.0-1.5 inch in the lumbar area.
N: Dorsal nerves roots for each vertebral level.
Dingchuan
L: 0.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the level of the lower border of the seventh cervical spinous process (GV 14).
A: stops asthma, relieves coughing
M: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 inch, or obliquely 0.5-1.0 toward GV 14.
Yishu
L: 1.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the lower border of the eighth thoracic spinous process.
A: Moves Blood, clears heat
M: Puncture oblique 0.5-1.0 inch toward the spine or 1.0-1.5 inch inferiorly.
C: Lung (pneumothorax risk).
Yaoyan
L: 3.5 cun lateral to the posterior midline, at the lower border of the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebrae. This point is found in the depression appearing in the prone position.
A: Benefits the lower back, relieves pain
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.8-1.2 inch.
Shiqizhuixia
L: Inferior to the spinous process of the fifth lumbar vertebrae.
A: benefits the lower back, regulates menses.
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch.
C: Cauda equina.
Zigongxue
L: 4 cun inferior to the umbilicus, and 3 cun lateral to the anterior midline (CV 3).
A: Regulates the uterus/ menses
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch.
C: Peritoneal cavity in thinner patients, and the ovaries (deep).
Huanzhong
L: At the junction of the medial 1/3 of the distance between the great trochanter and the sacral hiatus (GV 2).
A: relieves pain, treats hemorrhoids.
M: Puncture perpendicular 2.0-3.0 inch.
N: Sciatic nerve.
Baichongwo
L: 3 cun proximal to the mediosuperior border of the patella, on the belly of the vastus medialis muscle.
A: Relieves itching, expels wind
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.5 inch.
Heding
L: In the depression on the midpoint of the superior patellar border.
A: moves Qi, relieves pain.
M: Puncture perpendicular 0.5-1.0 inch.
Xiyan
L: A pair of points in the depressions, medial and lateral to the patellar ligament. This point is best located with the knee flexed. Lateral Xiyan is the same point as ST 35.
A: relieves swelling, relieves pain
M: Puncture perpendicular 1.0-2.0 inch toward UB 40 or oblique 1.0-2.0 inch directed behind the patella or toward medial Xiyan behind the patellar ligament.
Bafeng
L: On the dorsum of the foot, in the depressions 0.5 cun proximal to the margin of the webs. Four points per foot. These points include GB 43, ST 44, and LV 2.
A: relieves swelling, and moves Blood.
M: Puncture oblique 0.5-1.0 inch.
C: Dorsal venous network of the foot.
