What is the Vulva ?
The entire external genital area in a woman
Mons veneris (mons)
fatty tissue covered with skin and pubic hair; it acts as a cushion during sex, and pubic hair helps to vaporize odors
Introitus (vaginal opening)
Varies in appearance among girls and women; in newborn girls is it usually covered w/ thin membrane of skin called the hymen
Where is the Urethral opening located in girls
Located between the introitus and the clitoris is the passageway for excretion of urine.
Labia majora (outer lips)
two folds of skin that are extended down from the mons on either side of of the vulva.
Labia Minora (inner lips)
thin folds of hairless skin between the two labia majora; meet at front of clit hood and enclose the vestibule space
-contain sebaceous glands
-vestibule
clit, urethral opening, and vag opening
Clit is a complex organ consisting of
a glans, shaft, and vaginal opening
What are the internal portions of the clit?
the crura, and vestibular bulbs
Only known function of the clit is
sexual arousal and pleasure - erection can be a sign of arousal
Grafenberg spot (G Spot)
dime to quarter size spot in the lower third of anterior vaginal wall (2-3 in up), just past the pubic bone
