Q

How does the lack of male role models effect the achievement of black pupils ?

A

It is argued males in particular underachievers because they lack positive role models (data about black family households) In compensation, such boys may turn to deviant role models, for example leading figures in hyper masculine and territorial street gang in their neighbourhood (which supposedly value crime and deviance, peer loyalty and are anti authority and anti school)

Such boys are likely to be excluded from school because of their disruptive attitudes and behaviour
