What do cultural deprivation theorists say about a lack of intellectual skills?
Cultural deprivation theorists claim that children from low-income black families lack intellectual stimulation which causes then to underdevelop reasoning and problem-solving skills.
What did Bereiter and Engelmann say about the language of poorer black American families?
They claimed that the language was ungrammatical and disjointed which caused their children to be unable to express abstract ideas.
What do cultural deprivation theorists describe the working-class subculture that black children are socialised into as?
Fatalistic, focused on immediate gratification which results in a lack of motivation to succeed.
What is meant by the ‘lack of a male role model’?
Fathers in African-Carribean homes may not be present so boys may turn to anti-educational macho ‘gang culture’.
What does Pryce (1979) claim about the impact of slavery?
