What is the function of the Tympanum?
The eardrum. It is a round membrane just back of and lower than the eye on each side. The frog has no external ear structure.
What is the function of the External Nares?
Nostrils. The two small openings just above the mouth.
What is the function of the Maxillary Teeth?
Found on the margin of teh upper jaw.
What is the function of the Esophagus?
The opening of this tube is seen in the back of the pharnyx.
What is the function of the Tongue?
Found on teh lower mouth cavity. Note the free notched back end and the attached front end.
What is the function of the Cloacal Opening?
The hole at the tail end of the frog where digestive wastes, excretory wastes and repoductive products are excreted.
What is the function of the Nicitating Membrane?
The nicitating membrane can extend from the lower eyelid to cover and protect the eye.
What is the function of the Internal Nares?
Internal opening for breathing. With a dull probe, note the tube connecting the internal and external nares.
What is the function for the Vomerine Teeth?
Found in front of the mouth near the center.
What is the function of the Glottis?
The opening for the trachea in the middle of the pharynx.
What is the function of the eye sockets?
The orbit or eye socket is a cone-shaped bony cavity that protects the eye. The socket is padded with fatty tissue that allows the eye to move easily.
