Extension of Genetics quiz review Flashcards
simple dominance/complete dominance
there is a dominant trait and if the dominant allele is present, it is the one shown in the organism
Incomplete dominance
When a trait is mixed (heterozygous often)
(example: red and white make pink)
codominance
when each of the traits show up together (not mixed)
Epistasis
When one gene affects whether another is exposed
X - linked
Y - linked
when a gene is only present in the x chromosome or the y chromosome
Polygenic trait
when a trait is made up of two or more genes
Polyallelic trait
when one gene is made up of two or more alleles
Probability
In punnett square fraction of how much inside the square, double if there are several, multiply, numerous multiplication if different orders
Steps to Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium
- Find frequency of the recessive individual (q^2)
- Find frequency of recessive allele (q) (√q^2)
- Find frequency of the dominant allele (p) (p+q=1)
- Find frequency of each genotype (p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1)
- see if frequencies change over time
