Extended Physics Flashcards
What happens at the start of a jump out of a plane
At the start of the jump the air resistance is small so he accelerates downwards
What happens when the speed increases
The air resistance will also increase
What happens eventually
The air resistance will be enough to balance the skydivers weight. At this point the forces become balanced so his speed becomes constant. This is called terminal velocity
What is air resistance
When the air rubs against a moving object slowing it down. It’s called air resistance or drag
What happens when the person opens his parachute
The air resistance will suddenly increase causing him to slow down
What happens once after he starts slowing down
The air resistance will start to decrease again until it balances his weight. He then reaches a new terminal velocity.
What are moments
Moment = force x distance from pivot
What do we measure moments in
Nm or Ncm
What two things does pressure depend on
How much force is applied
How big or small the area on which the force is applied is
What is the equation to work it pressure
Pressure = force(N)/ area(m2)
What do we measure pressure in
N/m^2
