What is the poem about ?
A
- Soldiers in the trenches of World War One who are awake at night, afraid of an enemy attack
- However, nature seems too be there main enemy - is is windy cold and snowy
- The men imagine returning home, but feel guilty as the only way they feel they can keep there families safe is by sacrificing themselves
- They return to thinking about there deaths

The poem is 8 stanzas, with no progression. This could reflect Owen’s attitude too the war and that there is no reason behind it.

A
GREY, SHIVERING SILENCE, DULL, AGONIES, GHOSTS, KNIVE, NERVOUS, WEARIED, DROOPING , DYING.
The bleak language used suggests a lack of hope in the war and gives imagery too the reader on the awful weather and effects of it on the soldiers
