Exposure Flashcards
Shock
A critical state of hemodynamic instability reflecting progressive circulatory failure and hypoperfusion of vital organs, resulting in cellular dysfunction and eventual organ failure.
Hypoperfusion
A state of decreased blood flow and inability to meet metabolic demands of tissues resulting in cellular dysfunction and tissue death.

Definition
Parameters
A quick assessment tool to identify patients with infection (suspected sepsis) at risk of acute deterioration, prolonged ICU admission and/or death.
1. Hypotension - SBP </= 100mHg
2. Tachypnoea - RR >/=22
3. Altered mental state - GCS <15
Acute Organ Dysfunction
- Cardiovascular – SBP <90 or MAP <70mmHg for 60min despite fluid bolus, requires vasopressor support
- Respiratory – PF ratio < 250, PEEP >7.5cmH20, requires mechanical ventilation
- Renal – U/O <0.5ml/kg/hr, creatinine 50% > baseline, requiring acute dialysis.
- Haematological – platelet count <1000000mm3 or elevated PTT 5. Metabolic – pH < 7.3and elevated lactate.
- Hepatic – liver enzymes >2 x limit
- CNS – altered LOC/GCS
Lactate
Lactate < 2mmol/L
WBC
4-12 x 10(9)/L
MET Criteria
Clinician concern.
