Exponents Flashcards
What is the first law of exponents
If the bases are the same I can add the exponents
If I multiple a² * a⁵ I can add the exponents to get a⁷
What is the second law of exponent
When I divide and the bases are the same I can subtract the exponents
What is the Third Law of exponent
Your first multiply or divide the signs and then the numbers and then apply a rule number one or two
What do we do if a number and an exponent in brackets are multiplied by another exponent
You multiply the first exponent which is inside the brackets by the second exponent outside the brackets
What do you do if a number is raised to the power of 0
The answer will be one
What do you do if two numbers in brackets of a multiplied by each other while being raised to a power
You raise both the numbers separately to the power and multiply them together
What can you do to make a negative exponent positive
In order to make a negative exponent positive I have to put it under the line in a fraction for example B to the power of minus2 within become b to the power of one / 2 and 8 ^ -6 would become a and one over six
