Algebraic Language Flashcards
What is the first point in algebraic language
In algebraic expression of the multiplication sign is not used
for example 2 * a is a written as 2A
What is the second point in algebraic language
Write letters in alphabetical orders as far as possible for example write ABC rather than ACB or CBA
What is the third point in algebraic language
Always write the numbers (coefficient) before the letters (variables). For example do not write x * 5 as X5 rather write 5X
What is the fourth point in algebraic language
Do not write the one when you have 1x rather leave it simply as a x
What is the fifth point in algebraic language
In algebraic language you do not usually use a division sign instead of writing x / 5, we write x / 5 or 1/5x
What is the sixth point in algebraic language
A * a is written as “A²” and read as :a to the power 2” or a squared
What is the sixth point in algebraic language
A * a is written as “A²” and read as :a to the power 2” or a squared
What is an algebraic expression
It is a string of numbers and slash OR variables; a calculating procedure.
What is a like term
Like terms are terms that contain the same variables and the same exponents
What are unlike terms
Unlike terms or terms that don’t contain the same variables for example 3a² and 3b²
What is a monomial
an expression with one term
What is a binomial
An expression with two terms
What is a trinomial
An expression with three terms
What is a polynomial
An expression with more than one term
What splits terms
The + and the - sign
