What materials are magnetic ?
Iron , steel , cobalt and nickel
What are magnets ?
A piece of magnet that can attract other magnetic material
What happens if the north poles are the same and what happens if they are different ?
Like poles repel and opposite poles attract
What happens if the magnets are pointing different directions in a bar of iron ?
The magnetism is cancelled since the same poles repel each other
What happens if magnets are pointing the same way in a bar of iron ?
The iron becomes magnetized
What is an magnetic field ?
The space around a magnet where it attracts and repels
What are magnetic field lines ?
Lines that show the size , length and strength of a magnetic field
What are electromagnets ?
A magnet that can be switched on and off by using electricity
How do electromagnets work ?
When a wire has an electric current running through it , the current creates a magnetic field , if you twist wire into a coil it has a magnetic field the same shape as a magnet , a piece of iron in the coil make ps the irons magnetic field stronger
