it is deliberately going against conformity. E.g.wanting to look different from everyone else. Not just doing what you want.

what is desire for individualization?
the desire to maintain a sense of our own individuality sometimes outweighs the pressure to conform. People want to stay true to who they are.

individuals like to believe they are in control of their own lives and the idea of yielding to social influence does not sit comfortably with people. Those with a high need for control are more likely to resist conformity.
