studies shown exposure to others beliefs has an influence on social stereotypes. Wittenbrink and Henley found that participants exposed to negative information about African Americans lead to negative beliefs about black individuals.
Lucas asked students to solve a math’s problem that was either easy or difficult. Greater conformity on incorrect answers as they were difficult. showing that people conform when they don’t know the answer.

Q

evaluate nsi

A

explanation of nsi comes from Aschs experiment. Participants said that they conformed to avoid rejection from the group. this suggests NSI is a valid theory. However, giving answers nonverbally decreases conformity- writing the answers down dropped the conformity to 12.5 %
Nsi does not impact everyone as some individuals are less concerned with being liked. This limits the explanation of conformity, as it does not account for everyone’s behavior.
