A
- occurs when we wish to be liked and accepted by the majority group, so we go along with them even though we may not agree
- following the crowd in order to fit in with the ‘norm’ and be liked by the group / avoid rejection

informational social influence (ISI)
A
- when we look to the majority for info. as we are unsure about the way to behave; it is about who has the better information between you & the group
- conformity is due to genuinely believing the majority is right & therefore also wanting to be right
- cognitive process
- most likely to occur in situations that are new to a person + in situations where quick decisions have to be made + when a person / group is regarded as more of an expert
