Explaining Behaviour Flashcards
How can schemas explain why we form relationships?
Dion et al (1972) - says that we assume that physicaly attractive people have attractive qualities
This schema is called the halo effect , therefore we are more likely to try and form a relationship with them
How can internal mental processes effect our relationship formation?
A process called perception affects how we view people , meaning that how we perceive people through our memory of them effects if we want to continue the relationship
What is the matching hypothesis and how does it relate to relationship formation?
It claims that we will form romantic relationships with people based off of our self-schemas (how we view ourselves) and how similar they are in areas such as attractiveness . Meaning we will try and match sub conciously
