Rebelling slaves where tortured and forced to confess there plans when caught
This prevented them and others from rebelling again as they where so terrified
The male slaves (strongest and forest) where chained in twos

When near the slaves the captain of the ship was accompanied by an armed escort
Slaves feared the escort and it made it difficult for them to rebell
Punishment included being hung from the mast of the ship, having fingers crushed by thumb screws or being thrown overboard
This was performed in front of slaves to scare them into peace. After in successful rebellion many slaves took their own life
