A

A. Study of obedience to those in authority. Participants where asked to write a letter to convince fellow students to take part in a highly unethical sleep deprivation study. Participants had to option of obeying, disobeying or whistle blowing.

Loftus and Palmer 1974

A

A study of memory and eye witness testimonies. Participants where shown footage of staged car accidents. They were then given a questionnaire to fill in about what they had seen. A word in a key question was changed between ‘contacted’, ‘hit, ‘bumped’, ‘collided’ & ‘smashed’. Participants were asked to estimate the speed of the vehicle and to recall if they had seen broken glass.

Grant et al 1998

A

A study of context dependant memory. Participants were given a two page article to read an then were tested on the contents of the article. There were 4 experimental conditions, silent study silent test, silent study noisy test, noisy study silent test, noisy study noisy test.

Bandura et al 1961

A

Study of the transmission of aggression. Participants were split into 3 groups, aggressive role model, non-aggressive role model & no role model. Data was also split based on the participants gender and the role models gender. Participants were taken into a room and given high interest activities while the role model played with some toys (based on whether they were aggressive or not). Participants were taken into another room and told they were not allowed to play with he toys, they were then left in a third room with the same toys as the first and observed.

Chaney et al 2004

A

The funhaler study. Parents of children with asthma were given a questionnaire about the sue of their existing inhaler (which included a consent form). They were then given a funhaler to use for 2 weeks with the instructions that the parent had to use it with the child. At various time parents where randomly called and asked if they had used the funhaler the previous day. At the end of the 2 weeks the parents were given another questionnaire to fill in.

Sperry 1968

A

Split brain study. Participants were shown objects in one visual field and asked what they had seen and to draw it. Participants were given an object which they couldn’t see and asked to pick out similar objects and to identify the object.

Casey et al 2011

A

Study of the neural correlates of delay of gratification. Participants were tested at age 4 in the marshmallow test and also completed self-control and self-inventory tests in their 20’s and 30’s. They were then given the Go/No-Go task in their 40’s, 27 of the 59 participants in this test also agreed to retake the test in a fmri scanner.

Baron-Cohen et al 1997

A

Study of Autism in adults. There were 3 groups of participants. Group 1 had either high functioning autism or Asperger syndrome. Group 2 consisted of ‘normal’ adults. Group 3 consisted of adults with Tourette syndrome. The participants were tested on the eyes task, the strange stories task, the gender recognition task & the basic emotion recognition task.

Milgram 1963

A

Study of obedience to people in authority, participants delivered fake electric shocks to a confederate. Participants were encouraged to continue in the experiment if they became concerned about the confederates well being. Participants experienced high amounts of stress in the experiment
