Experimental targeted therapies Flashcards
1
Q
Why is monotherapy usually not enough ?
A
- Complexity of diseases : multiple pathways and mechanisms
- Resistance development (bacteria and viruses)
- Combination/synergistic effect of combining drugs is interesting
- Single drug treatment means the dosage is usually very high (side effects, toxicity…)
2
Q
“One size does not fit all”. What does it mean in the context of monotherapy ?
A
A percentage of the population do not respond to certain treatments. For example, some cancer drugs are ineffective in over 70% of the population.
3
Q
What is personnalized medicine ?
A
Personnalized medicine uses specific information about a person’s genome to help diagnose, plan and follow up the treatment, or make a prognosis.
4
Q
What parameters should be considered for personnalized medicine ?
A
- Treatment modality
- Drug dose ratio
- Genotypic information
- Administration route
- Treatment history
- Disease stage
- Treatment schedule
