Why is monotherapy usually not enough ?

A
  • Complexity of diseases : multiple pathways and mechanisms
  • Resistance development (bacteria and viruses)
  • Combination/synergistic effect of combining drugs is interesting
  • Single drug treatment means the dosage is usually very high (side effects, toxicity…)
