Experimental Design/Scientific Method Flashcards
the step by step instructions that tell how to perform an experiment.
Procedure
The outcome of the experiment or the factor you measure to determine whether your hypothesis was correct or not.
Dependent Variable
An “educated”; or your “best guess” to the outcome of an experiment.
Hypothesis
The single isolated factor you are testing in an experiment. (hint: “I” change it)
Independent Variable
Anything that must be kept the same in an experiment for the test to be valid or fair.
Constant
The part of the experiment that is used for comparison. Does not contain the independent variable.
Control Group
A hypothesis that has a lot of support to back it up and is yet to be disproved
Theory
Explains how something occurs in nature and seems to always be correct.
Law
Part of the experiment that contains the independent variable. The “test” group.
Experimental Group
The process of collecting and recording information
