Experimental Design Flashcards
1
Q
Inus condition
A
Insufficient but non-redundant part of an unnecessary but sufficient condition. Insufficient because it alone is not cause. Non-redundant if it adds something unique from other factors in constellation. Part of a sufficient condition if all factors present. Unnecessary if other sets of conditions can produce result. Most “causes” are actually inus conditions.
2
Q
“in-our-hands” phenomenon
A
It works though we don’t know which factors are important yet.
3
Q
Counterfactual
A
Something contrary to fact. In experiment, what happened to those receiving treatment in comparison to if they had not. Difference between is effect.
