Experimental Definitions Flashcards
1
Q
Accuracy
A
How close an experimental result is to its true value
Accuracy usually depends on the method you use to obtain your results
2
Q
Reliability
A
If you carry out several repeats and your results are similar, you can be confident that your results are reliable.
By identifying anomalies and removing them and calculating a mean you increase the reliability of your results
3
Q
Precision
A
The smallest unit on the scale of measuring instruments you are using.
If you measure something very precisely you measure using the smallest unit possible
4
Q
Validity
A
If the method makes sure that the effects observed and measured are due to the cause claimed
