Experiment Design Quiz Flashcards
What are the three design types?
- Independent measures
- Matched pairs
- Repeated measures
Design type
How you assign participants to a control or experimental group
Independent measures
Haphazard, not based on anything
Matched pairs
Identify a particular confounding variable, and eliminate it through assignment
Repeated measures
A certain experiment repeated multiple times
What are the five types of samples?
- Random
- Opportunity
- Representative
- Purposive
- Cluster
Cluster
Braking down target pop. And identifying specific sections amongst the pop. And inviting. Them to participate
Random sample
Every member of larger population or target population had an equal chance to participate in your study
Representative sample
Identified sub categories in target population and seek to represent groups equally
Purposive sample
Researchers will specifically target from target population individuals who will offer most insight and or feedback
Target population
Identifying a smaller unit or grouping from which to draw your data
Independent variable
Factor a researcher will manipulate or change
Dependent variable
Outcome of measurement
Population
All individuals from which your sample is drawn
What are the 6 different experiment types?
- Field
- Lab
- Naturalistic
- Longitudinal
- Cross-cultural
- Cross-sectional
