Experiment 4: Standardization of an Aqueous NaOH Solution Flashcards
1
Q
Purpose of Experiment 4
A
Determine the concentration of a solution
2
Q
Standardization
A
Determine the exact concentration of a solution by titration
3
Q
Safety Precautions
A
Using concentrated NaOH, if came in contact wash with a lot of water
4
Q
Procedure: Making base
A
- Weigh out ~2.5 g of KHP and dissolve it in a 250 mL volumetric flask filled halfway with DI water (125 mL)
then add the rest
2 . Shake flask to make sure solution is uniform - Calculate molarity (mol/L)
5
Q
Procedure: Making acid
A
- Add 400 mL of water to 1 L bottle
- Add 6 mL of the 10M NaOH
- Add 200 mL more of water to the bottle (600 mL)
6
Q
Procedure: Standardization
A
- Clean and rinse pipet and
- Transfer a small amount into a beaker and transfer that into a Erlenmeyer flask
- Add 3 drops of the indicator into the flask
- Record the initial volume and titrate until it is a light pink
- Record the final volume
- Calculate molarity
