Acute Pancreatitis (what it is/cause, 2 main risk factors + a child specific and disease, and 2 kinds of necrosis)

A

Autodigestion of pancreas due to premature activation of enzymes (trypsin first, which activates others)
Alcohol and gallstones, but MVA in kids (because seatbelt on abdomen) and mumps also
Liquefactive hemorrhagic from autodigestion and fat necrosis of peripancreatic fat (which uses up Ca)

Q

Adenocarcinoma (2 risk factors, 2 presentations based on location, treatment)

A

Smoking and chronic pancreatitis
Head of pancreas: obstructive jaundice with pale stools/palpable gall bladder
Tail/body: T2DM, notable because it presents much later in life than normal and in non-obese patients. So think about with little old lady who suddenly develops
Treat with Whipple procedure (removing head/neck/prox duo, gb)
