Securing the exhibits
Name the key attributes that an exhibit numbering system should have:
- Be consistent
- Allow delegation of exhibit numbers to staff who will be using them
- Cope with multiple scenes
- Be compatible with technology, allowing searching to be conducted using exhibit numbers
- Encompass all exhibits eg medical examination kits (MEKS) reference blood samples and photographs lent to ESR

Before accepting any exhibit into their custody OC Exhibits must ensure the person has seized them has:
- Correctly preserved the exhibit
- Labelled each exhibit with exhibit number and name of op
- Correctly recorded the exhibit on the exhibit schedule
- Labelled, separately packaged and sealed the exhibit- standard operating procedure
- Assign a unique exhibit number from the allocated number range.
