Code 1- Attack/COMEX
Code 2- Remain at safe depth
Code 3- Return to periscope depth and establish tactical radio communications, All clear during the next 10 minutes
Code 4- FINEX
Code 5- Fishing vessel deconfliction (Uniform Procedure)
Underwater Telephone (Gertrude)
What does a Red Grenade mean?
Indicates submarine is conducting emergency surfacing procedure, or is on the bottom unable to surface
What does one Green Grenade mean?
Indicates an attack using a conventional torpedo
What does two Green Grenades mean?
Indicates an attack using a nuclear torpedo.
What do Yellow Flares or White Smoke mean?
Indicates SM Position and intent to surface if another released after 3 minutes
Define SUBLOOK
This procedure is initiated when a submarines safety report is overdue by one hour
Define SUBMISS
This procedure is initiated when a submarine safety report is overdue by six hours or for a single compartment submarine 3 hours.
Define SUBSUNK
This procedure is initiated when a submarine operating authority has positive information that a submarine has sunk. It’s also used to initiate a fully coordinated search for a submarine which is believe missing.
