Exercise Testing Flashcards
1
Q
when would you use submaximal testing?
A
in sedentary people
used to measure cardiorespiratory fitness, develop plan, etc
2
Q
when would you use symptom limited testing?
A
ppl w/ heart sx (angina, dyspnea), used to screen and dx CAD
3
Q
what ekg changes are criteria for termination of exercise?
A
- ST elevation >1mm
- ST depression >2mm
- dangerous arrhythmias or heart block
4
Q
what BP changes are criteria for termination of exercise?
A
- SBP drops despite increase in workload
- SBP >250mmHg
- DBP >115mmHg
5
Q
what symptom changes are criteria for termination of exercise?
A
- severe angina
- severe dyspnea
- severe claudication pain
- cyanosis
- CNS symptoms (dizziness)
6
Q
what are absolute contraindications for exercise testing?
A
- acute MI within 2 days
- decompensated HF
- symptomatic or hemodynamically significant cardiac arrhythmias
- unstable angina
7
Q
healthy VS response to exercise?
A
- HR increases linearly in relation to increasing workload
- SBP increases linearly in relation to workload
- DBP stays the same or drops
- SpO2 similar to resting levels
8
Q
health VS response to recovery post-exercise?
A
- HR recovers 12bpm or more in 1st min
- progressive decline in SBP
