Exercise Physiology Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of anaerobic threshold
A
- 50% of max VO2
- when lactate starts to rise
- Critical pO2 is reached (20-25)
- Need about 5-6 L/min of output to muscles and once that falls this is reached
2
Q
Stroke volume and HR response to exercise
A
SV increases but reaches max at about 40% of exercise then HR response has greatest affect
3
Q
Why do VE/VCO2 and VE/VO2 fall at early exercise
A
Ventilation is more efficient at higher tidal volumes
4
Q
What happens to SVR during exercise
A
Decreases due to vasodilation
5
Q
Definition of max effort on exercise test
A
RER > 1.2
VAT near 50% max
6
Q
Normal BP response with exercise
A
30-50 mmHg increase with exercise
7
Q
Normal max VO2 in teenage boys
A
About 50
8
Q
Normal max VO2 in teenage girls
A
About 40
9
Q
How much should CO increase with exercise
A
3-4 x
5X or more in athletes
