Exercise 6 Eyes Flashcards
There are 3 pairs of ???? muscles that regulate the motion of each eye, what is the group of muscles called?
extraocular muscles
Which extraocular muscle moves the eye towards the nose?
medial rectus (MR)
Which extraocular muscle moves the eye away from the nose?
lateral rectus (LR)
Which extraocular muscle primarily moves the eye upward & secondly rotates the top of the eye toward the nose?
superior rectus (SR)
Which extraocular muscle primarily moves the ye downward & secondly rotates the top of the eye away from the nose?
inferior rectus (IR)
Which extraocular muscle primarily rotates the top of the eye toward the nose & secondarily moves the eye downward?
superior oblique (SO)
Which extraocular muscle primarily rotates the top of the eye away from the nose & secondarily moves the eye upward?
inferior oblique (IO)
The eye is situated in which cavity?
orbital cavity
Sections of the eye: sphere of the eye is called?
eyeball
Sections of the eye: white of the eye is called?
sclera - it is the outer tunic(layer) of the eye. It provides shape and support to the eye.
Sections of the eye: the clear dome at the front of the eye?
cornea - “window” of the eye, allowing light into the interior of the eye.
Sections of the eye: clear membrane covering the sclera but not the cornea.
conjunctiva. protects eye and produces mucus
Sections of the eye: the circular opening in the centre of the coloured iris.
pupil. enlarging in dim light & contracting in bright light.
Sections of the eye:coloured area consisting of involuntary smooth muscles which control the size of the pupil.
iris
Sections of the eye: the clear gel that makes up approx. 80% of the eyes volume.
vitreous humour. it maintains the shape & helps refract light
Sections of the eye: the innermost tunic of the eye.
retina. it receives visual stimuli via photoreceptors that transform light into electrical signals.
Sections of the eye: oval-shaped yellow spot near the centre of the retina.
macula or macula lutes. it contains millions of light sensing cells that provide sharp, detailed central vision.
Sections of the eye: nerve connecting the retina to the brain
optic nerve or second cranial nerve
Sections of the eye: point where the optic nerve & blood vessels leave the eye
optic disk
Sections of the eye: protect the eyes from the environment, injury & light.
eyelids - also spread tears evenly over the eye.
Sections of the eye: protect the eyes from the elements & debris
eyelashes
Tears are composed of 3 layers, what are they?
oil, water and mucous
Tears eventually empty into the ???? sac?
lacrimal sac
The lacrimal sac drains into the ???? duct which connects to the nasal passage.
nasolacrimal duct
??? vision - what is seen when you look at it directly?
Central vision
???? vision - the vision to the sides of the central point?
peripheral (side) vision. this allows you to find objects & detect threats.
???? vision - the portion of the persons surroundings that can be seen at any one time in the peripheral vision whilst focusing the eyes on a central point.
visual field.
Sections of the eye: formed by the cillary body, iris and choroid.
uveal tract
Sections of the eye: middle tunic between the sclera & the retina which carries blood vessels nourishing the eye.
choroid
