What is a simple stain?
A stain used to create a contrast between the specimen and its background.
What is an example of a basic or cationic dye or stain?
The methylene blue is a basic dye
What type of dye is mostly used in simple stains?
Acidic or anionic dye.

Shape and cellular arrangements.
What do cocci look like?
sphere-shaped
What do streptococci look like?
chains of 4 or more organisms
What do staphylococci look like?
resemble grape clusters
What do bacilli look like?
rod-shaped
What do filamentous bacilli look like?
Long filamentous chains
What do spirochetes look like?
Extremely thin, flexible rods with several curves
What do spirilla look like?
rigid rods possessing several curves
What do vibrios look like?
comma shaped, a short rod with a single curve.
What is pleomorphism?
a term used to denote variations within a species.
