Exercise 14&15 Flashcards
The inhibition of interneurons and antagonist muscles is called
reciprocal inhibition
Biggest difference between somatic and autonomic nervous systems?
Somatic doesn’t utilize preganglonic neurons + ganglia in their reflex arcs unlike autonomic.
What is the technique used to help enhance sluggish stretch reflexes?
Jendrassik Maneuver
Somatic Reflex Testing (5 ways)
Achilles (patella), biceps(Biceps brachii), triceps(triceps brachii), crossed-extensor reflex(flex in one muscle causes extension in the other), and patellar (patella)
Autonomic relfexes (2 ways)
pupillary(eyes; dilation of pupils) and ciliospinal/pupillodilator (reaction of left and right pupil)
Hip replacements can be done with
Teflon
Gluteus medius
abducts and medially rotates thigh/femur; assists in free leg swing when walking
Tensor fasciae latae
steadies pelvis on femur head. hip abduction and medial rotation of thigh
adductor longus
adduct and medially rotate thigh
Gracillis
adducts and medial rotates hip and flexion at knee
Sartotrius
flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh
rectus femoris
used in running, climbingm and jumping.
vastus
(know where to identify them on a model- same function as rectus femoris)
gastrocnemius
weakly flexes knee when foot is dorsiflexed
soleus
deep to gastro, plantar flexes foot
