How is the electoral college set up?
- Each state has electors that equal the number of Senators and Representatives in the House of Representatives in Congress
- On election day, the population votes for their choice (popular vote)
- The number of electors goes to the choice the people make (Electoral Vote)
- To be President, you need 270 out of 538 electoral votes to win
Why is the electoral college used?
To allow a voice by the majority of the country in terms of area as well as population.
If it was strict popular vote, only certain states and cities would need to vote based on population.
