Qualifications for the President
35 years old, natural born citizen, and lived in the US for 14 consecutive years
What can the president do?
The president has the power to veto (approve or reject) a bill before they become laws. The president also has the the power to ENFORCE laws with the states, and to command the armed forces. He/she is the Commander in Chief of the US forces.
Vice President Job
Vice Prez is the President of the Senate, which means they can cast the tie-breaking vote if there is a tie between republicans and democrats.
Becoming President
Election happens every 4 years, and the prez cannot serve for more than 2 four-year terms. *22nd Amendment to the Constitution.
If the President dies…
Vice prez becomes President, then the speaker of the house.
President’s cabinet consists of…
The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments — the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Attorney General.
What do the executive departments do?
They help the president carry out thousands of laws.
How are the President’s cabinet people selected?
The president appoints a secretary to lead each department that must be approved by the Senate.
