How do people agree/disagree with Hartley?
In order to agree, groups of people must recognize other people which requires both engagement and respect (ie recognition respect)
But, because of people’s views, this level of engagement and respect is not always available as people do not view those with disabilities as equals
What is Darwall’s recognition respect?
Requires valuing someone appropriately as a person and direct conduct accordingly and recognizing that persons have authority to make claims to each other as equals
What does Rawls idea have to do with contractarianism?
Contractarianism is the view that morality is based on a social contract. Rawl’s theory has to do with this because his discusses the veil of ignorance
Because of this, we can see that contractarianism explains and justifies the basic moral rules. If one is behind the veil of ignorance, rational people would agree to obey central moral rules and would be a contract people would agree to.
What is the veil of ignorance?
“This is an imaginary device that erases all knowledge of your distinctive traits”
Allows for people to disconnect from their backgrounds in order to make fair choices
What is the equality of opportunity?
states that we should not be forced to be uniform in all our choices and actions. But generally, we want equality in terms of resources, content of rules, and how rules apply. We overall want to avoid unequal freedom.
What is Hartley problem with the equality of opportunity?

How do Rawls idea relate to the mentally disabled?
idea does not say that we do not have any obligations to the mentally disabled in terms of justice. Further, he discusses more about cooperation which Hartley does not think is a poor view, yet, merely thinks it falls short in the aspects listed above.
What is social cooperation for Rawls?
Rawls claims social cooperation to be the basic structure of society given that society can be viewed as a system, over time, of cooperation.
What does fair cooperation require?
“First, is guided by publicly recognizing rules and procedures that those cooperating accept and regard as properly regulating their conduct’ second, its concern is with ‘ terms that each participant may reasonably accept, provided that everyone else likewise accepts them’ and fair cooperation includes and ‘idea of each participants rational advantage, or good’”
How does reciprocity relate to fair cooperation?
In this specific case of cooperation, one must understand that cooperation requires individuals working together in order to get the same end result.
Rather than looking at in from a point of view that regards production and redistribution of goods
Instead, discusses establishments of a society. In doing so, it talks about relationships that are required for social cooperation to take place.

What is the relationship model of cooperation? And how does it relate to Hartley?
In the relationship model of cooperation, it focuses on the development of those who are cooperating, in order to do so, this requires one to recognize another as a worthy being. This can relate to social cooperation because it focuses on the relations of mutual respect between free and equal members, opposed to the production and distribution of goods.
Hartley uses such a model to state that it discusses companionship and engagement with one another. Which goes back to recognizing others as if you are able to recognize such relationships with others, it allows for cooperation.
How does cooperation have to do with the mentally disabled?
Capacity for engagement, recognition, fair cooperation, and recognition respect
Through the capacity for engagement, such people can cooperatively contribute to society. This would deem that they would be able to interpret and recognize as communication within themselves, which is possible.

Inclusiveness in education is important because it allows for people with disabilities to explore and gain their knowledge. This level of inclusiveness can benefit everyone and create a community. With these educational opportunities, people with disabilities would not be looked at due to their differences but rather can be looked at through the similarities between them and others than they share

Creating friendships is not always going to be possible

Facilitating employment to those with disabilities is cruical, it promotes diversity and inclusion. By offering training to those with disabilities, it gives people the opportunity to engage with people with disabilities so they can break the stereotypes. Thus, allowing people to form acceptance.

People may not be equipped to teach those with disabilities due to not having experience
Implementing different communication methods would ensure that everyone’s needs are being met. Some may need more visual aids and a more simplified explanation in the learning environment. By ensuring that different communication methods are provided it would enhance accessibility and understanding.
